Every few weeks I get a call from the American Red Cross asking for me to come in and donate blood and 2 out of 3 times I'll say yes and schedule an appointment. So when they called Wednesday I decided to schedule an appointment for Sunday. For starters I don't hate it, but mostly I'm O+ blood type, which means I'm a universal donor. Even though it's the most common blood type, it's also the most needed blood type so I donate.
I have no sob story to share about how a blood donation saved my life or the life of someone close to me and that's why I donate. Nothing has ever happened, I just donate.
Giving blood is one of the simplest ways to make a difference and help someone and you really can save a life and that's enough for me to take a hour out of my day to donate. The way I see it I donate around 4 times a year and each donation can be used for 3 people, meaning each year I help save 12 people for 4 hours of my time. The math's simple, it's completely worth it, so find your nearest Red Cross and go give blood and save a life.
